Help! I Hate Interacial Dating!

The farthest their adventures would go would be a Hindu desi dating a Muslim desi, and their parents would end up driving them apart. There are the desis that only talk to each other, and the desis that avoid each other like the plague. In High School I dated people of color, but never desis. When I started identifying as queer I pretty much exiled myself from the desi community for a while, in order to find myself and all that. This meant that I casually dated white people and black people… but no Indian people or non-western people at all.

Why does everyone hate interracial dating idea that a person of color who dates a white person is harboring some kind of self-hatred is a far too simplistic one.

A half century ago in , U. Supreme Court ruled in Loving v. Virginia that states could not prohibit interracial marriage. At that time, interracial marriage was illegal in 16 southern states. Over the past 50 years, interracial marriages have become far more common in the United States. The data shows that in when the Loving case was decided, only 3 percent of all newlywed couples were interracial.

Today, the figure is 17 percent. Among major ethnic groups, Asian women are the most likely to be involved in an interracial marriage. For Whites, 12 percent of men and 10 percent of women marry a spouse of a different race. But for African Americans there is a large gender gap.
